Cas McCullough
has sung her way from preschool to parenthood, developing a love of performing
on stage at age six when she sang nursery rhymes on TV with the Channel
Seven Super Juniors in Adelaide. Now as a mother of three boys, Cas performs original heartfelt ballads inspired by the ups and downs
of her life's journey and motherhood.
Cas writes inspirational
and Gospel songs in a variety of styles including folk, contemporary, country,
jazz and blues.
In 2000, Cas
began to write songs about birth and motherhood as a
healing mechanism after the traumatic birth of her
first child. In 2002 she
began studying voice and composition under the guiding hand of Brisbane
songstress and teacher Laine Loxlea Dannan and in 2003 Cas gave birth to
baby no. two, and produced her first CD, Stranger’s City.
In February 2004 Cas performed her self-penned show "Birth Matters" which she
produced in conjunction with photographer Deirdrie
Cullen at the
Summer Song emerging artists' showcase at Metro Arts in Brisbane and
made her debut at the Australian Gospel Music Festival in Toowoomba in April
2004. Cas also made her major production debut by producing the entertainment for
the "Airing Our Laundry" mini-fest presented by the Friends of the Birth Centre
(FBC) Queensland in King George Square, Brisbane, in May, 2004. Cas went on an extended performance break while the
family welcomed their third baby boy in January
2005. However, in June 2005 Cas produced the
entertainment for the FBC BIRTHday Festival at Roma
Street Parklands featuring Barbara Fordham, The
Peachfish, Kristy Wilson, Flipside Circus, and Laine
Loxlea Dannan, an event which attracted around 3000
attendees.
Cas lives in
Brisbane, Australia with her husband of nine
years and her young family. She is a spokesperson
for the national consumer advocacy group Maternity
Coalition Inc. on issues related to vaginal birth
after caesarean (VBAC), Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder and Postnatal Depression, a participant in
the Brisbane support group Birthtalk, and co-founder
of Mums In Touch Forest Lake, a community-based
support network for new and isolated mums.
Aside from her music career,
Cas is also a published freelance writer in
parenting magazines and a committed campaigner and
speaker on birth care reform. She has a Bachelor of Arts
degree majoring in English Literature and a Master’s
degree in Business (Communication Studies) and now
with 15 years PR experience behind her uses her
professional skills to do pro bono PR and Marketing
work for Maternity Coalition Inc. as well as work
for grassroots arts organisations such as Flipside
Circus.
